Zakynthos ( Zante)

A holiday that we enjoyed in a bustling little resort called Lagana, staying at a hotel which bore that name. It was on the outskirts of the town and opposite a wonderful Greek restaurant which had the most sumptuous sweets - particularly Greek yoghurt with honey!

The beach was  good for walking but one had to beware of nesting turtles - warnings everywhere. The water is shallow and probably ideal for children.

I shall always remember a Sunday morning walk into the capital town of Zakynthos - flowers by the roadside, sunshine, and as we approached Zakynthos the music from the church wafted towards us. The church was full and there were stalls outside selling fruit and cold drinks.

After a brilliant first week during which we met a couple who we shared a car with - we made them a video of their holiday, gave it to them a few weeks later and never heard from them again! - things went bad when Carol damaged her ankle during one of the frequent power cuts and spent four days sat by the pool whilst the doctor visited her. It was a crutches job as the doctor had potted her leg from hip to toe.

Ah, well!
